What to do in Toronto this Christmas

Christmas in Toronto

Whether you are visiting Toronto for the holidays or you live in {or around} the city, these are the top 5 things that you absolutely must do this Christmas season. Not only are they guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit but you will also get to enjoy one of the most wonderful cities in the world {I may be a little biased…} in full sparkle and glamour!

1.Bundle up and go ice skating

In the winter, this city comes alive with public skating rinks that you can find scattered all throughout, with the most popular one being at Nathan Phillips Square. While they all offer their own charm, I would highly recommend marking December 20th on your calendar for the Annual Holiday Skating Party at the Harbour Front Centre.

2.Visit the Toronto Christmas Market

This is a fairly new event but it is quickly becoming a Christmas staple in the city. The Distillery District in Toronto is decked out with twinkling Christmas lights, the most beautiful Christmas tree and a variety of shops where you can purchase anything from handcrafted ornaments and gifts to delicious {and festive} snacks.

3. Bah Humbug your way to Soulpepper’s adaptation of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol

The show will warm your heart and get you in the right mindset for the holidays. The venue is also is conveniently located in the heart of the Distillery District. My suggestion: give yourself a few hours before the show starts so you have plenty of time to walk through the Christmas Market then follow the play with dinner at my favourite Mexican restaurant. Perfect date-night? Absolutely!

4. Go for a walk through the High Park trails

Living in the west end of Toronto, I’ve come to truly appreciate the beauty and solitude that High Park offers this busy and bustling city, especially during this crazy time of the year. The best way to do the park is to start with a walk on Roncesvalles. If you enjoy great coffee, get a cup at Cherry Bomb and walk north on Roncy until you get to High Park Boulevard. You will walk by some of Toronto’s most beautiful homes and walk in to the park through my favourite entrance!

5. Brave the crowds at the Eaton Centre

If you prep yourself for a crowded mall and if you have gotten most of you shopping done, going for a walk through Toronto’s iconic Eaton Centre will be an enjoyable Christmas activity – I promise! The Christmas music, the crowds, the decorations and the good cheer lives there this time of the year. And before leaving, make sure you walk by The Bay’s store display on Queen Street. It’s an absolute must!

Fellow Torontonians, what other key events and places are a must this time of the year?
